Pennfield’s school day does not end for many preschool and pre-kindergarten students at 1 p.m. The majority of these youngsters, especially ones with siblings in kindergarten and above, settle into the Extended Day routine. In the Extended Day, teachers continue to interact with the children in arts and crafts, music, books, games, snacks and outdoor play. While Pennfield is dealing with COVID-19, Extended Day for primary students will only be offered until 3 p.m. Extended Day from 1 – 3 p.m. will be free.
At 3 p.m., students from first grade through third grade are allowed to stay for Extended Day. This larger group has snacks and begins to tackle the evening’s homework in a separate room, prior to play. Once time has been given to homework, with the assistance of the teachers, the children can relax and engage in fun. There is a similar program for students in fourth through eighth grade who opt not to participate in an after-school sport or club.
Because of the extra staffing and spaces needed during the COVID-19 period , the cost for Extended Day will be $15.00 an hour. During these unusual times, families need to sign up in advance. Students will be kept in stable groups for Extended Day. If space needs to be shared, stable groups will remain 7 feet apart from one another.
The Extended Day Registration form will be included in the summer mailing packet.
