- Founded in 1971 as The New School
- Renamed The Pennfield School in 1993, after Isabelle Penny (Assistant Head of School and English teacher, 1972-1993)
- Moved to permanent location at “Little Slocum Farm” in 2004
- About 200 students in Preschool (age 3) to 8th grade
- International students, most recently from China, Germany, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, and Saudi Arabia
- About 25 military students each year
- About 125 families – with about 45 new students each year. A majority live on Aquidneck Island. Families also travel from South County, East Bay and Little Compton/Tiverton.
- Average class size: 16 students
- 55 faculty and administrators
- Student – Faculty Ratio: 5 to 1
- 5th to 8th grade: personal MacBook Air laptops
- Lower School 1:1 iPad program
- 19 acres of property abutting the Aquidneck Island Land Trust’s Sakonnet Greenway Trail and Glen Farm (Portsmouth’s athletic fields)
- Approximately 48% of families receive a financial aid grant, military discount, or faculty tuition remission. $6,300 is the average grant.
