At the beginning of each school year, Pennfield’s middle school students travel to Chewonki in Wiscasset, Maine, for an outdoor adventure. This fall tradition brings students together to step away from technology, explore nature, and strengthen bonds with classmates.
Throughout the week, students take on outdoor challenges, work together to accomplish camp responsibilities, and discover the importance of teamwork and encouragement. From hiking and cooking to breaking down camp at the end of their stay, every activity is a chance to learn more about themselves and each other while living out Pennfield’s core values of joy, understanding, and respect.
The Chewonki trip sets the tone for the year ahead, giving middle schoolers the opportunity to return to campus with new friendships, fresh perspectives, and a strong sense of community. It is the perfect kickoff to a fantastic year of learning at Pennfield.
