Buddy Day: A Time for Connection & Fun

Buddies getting to know each other at the beginning of the year

One of the most anticipated moments at Pennfield is Buddy Day, when older and younger students come together to form meaningful connections. This year, we began by having buddies fill out a Buddy Info sheet, sharing hobbies, interests, and fun facts, before heading outside to play and laugh together. These moments are just as much about building friendships as they are about having fun.

The Buddy Program is a treasured community-building initiative at Pennfield School. By pairing older students with younger students, the program encourages peer mentoring, social development, and intergrade connections. Monthly Buddy Days include creative projects, games, and hands-on activities that promote teamwork, communication, and empathy. Weekly buddy meetups during morning assembly—often in the form of a quick dance party—help reinforce these relationships while keeping the experience joyful and engaging.

Through these activities, younger students gain role models and support, while older students develop leadership skills and the opportunity to mentor others. Beyond structured activities, the program thrives on everyday interactions: sharing a joke, walking together between classes, or simply offering encouragement.

The Buddy Program supports students’ personal and social growth, helping them build confidence, practice empathy, and strengthen communication skills. Above all, it fosters a sense of belonging and connection across the Pennfield community.

From the first introductions to the shared laughter on the playground, Buddy Day sets the stage for friendships that last all year. It’s a beloved tradition that reflects Pennfield’s commitment to creating a caring, inclusive, and supportive school environment, where students of all ages can connect, learn from one another, and grow together.
