Mathew Bottone

Mathew Bottone serves as The Pennfield School’s Primary Science Teacher, introducing Preschool and Pre-K students to the wonders of science through hands-on exploration, discovery, and inquiry. He especially enjoys the unique opportunity to teach some students first as preschoolers and later again as eighth graders.

A member of the Pennfield faculty since 1997, Mathew has inspired generations of students through his passion for science and creative approach to teaching. Over the years, he has served in a variety of roles, including Middle School Science Teacher, Middle School Play Director, Yearbook Editor, Technology Coordinator, Upper School Head, and Student Life Coordinator.

Before entering education, Mathew worked as a professional actor in Colorado, San Francisco, Newport, Providence, and Boston. Inspired by exceptional teachers from his own school years, he pursued a career in science education, combining his love of storytelling and performance with teaching.

Mathew and his wife, Sharon Rust, have deep roots in the Pennfield community. Their children, Sabine and Sebastian, are both Pennfield alumni.
