The Pennfield School kicked off it’s 49th school year this week with students returning to campus for full-time in person learning. The last time that students attended classes in the building was March 13. That was 25 weeks ago! The faculty, administration, and special COVID-19 task force worked throughout the summer to make today happen.
Campus looks a bit different, with safety reminders throughout the building, tents set up to promote distancing, co-curricular teachers using mobile “classrooms”, and teaching often being moved outdoors to provide students with opportunities to remove their masks.
Students seemed a bit nervous entering the building, not knowing quite what to expect. At our daily virtual assembly, Mr. Kelley (Head of School) listed things to think about this year:
- Be Kind
- Be Patient (especially during passing, because moving from class to class will take a bit longer than normal)
- Be Considerate
- Be Safe (wash hands, use hand sanitizer, wear a mask)
- Have Fun Learning!
By lunchtime, the “first day jitters” had disappeared. Families and faculty are thrilled to be back.
