Veer off to the left immediately upon entering the Library and you are in the Technology Lab, a vibrant white space filled with computer stations. Teachers schedule class time in the Technology Lab for their students to learn keyboarding, research topics for class projects, and play interactive math and Spanish quiz games. Early on, students are writing many of their papers using the computer and creating presentations utilizing multi-media tools.
Beginning in the fall of the 2012-2013 school year, all Pennfield students have access to iPads. Students in grades six through eight have one-to-one usage and Pre-School through grade five have access to a classroom set of iPads. Faculty are constantly learning about new iPad applications and how to develop technology infused lesson plans, all to facilitate a more differentiated curriculum to benefit our students. As students make their transition to the digital workspace, students will have access to our new Destiny Digital Library and over time, other sources of eBooks and digital textbooks. Students will stay organized with the help of digital plan books, note taking applications, Pages word processing, and Keynote presentations. iPads will be used in conjunction with ‘tried and true’ teaching methods.
Upon graduation, students are well prepared to use technology as well as traditional resourcing skills to do research. They also have a solid, working knowledge of word processing, multi-media presentations and are adept at finding their way around on a computer for educational and class work purposes.
