Students Shine on Spanish Exam
Congratulations! The results of the 2017 National Spanish Examinations are in, and Pennfield had students place 1st, 2nd, and a two-way tie for 3rd at the state level. Also notable is that Pennfield’s 7th grade students accounted for eight of the thirteen bronze medals that were awarded in Rhode Island.
Upper school students earned a total of two gold, four silver and eleven bronze medals along with seven honorable mentions. “Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious,” said Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the Exams, “because the exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with over 157,000 students participating in 2017.”
Our students have a long history of high achievement on these exams. Spanish teachers, Peter Dorrien Traisci and Maria Takacs are particularly thrilled with this year’s outcome.
The National Spanish Examinations are administered each year in grades 6 through 12, and are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.
